Tang Soo Do is a Korean Martial Art, originally being one of the few Kwans to not unite to become the Martial Art TaeKwonDo.

History[edit | edit source]

Tang Soo Do (Hangul: 당수도) today is a separate style of martial arts only related in basic ancestry to the Kwan styles of long ago. When styles like TaeKwonDo, Kong Soo Do, and others joined under the Korea Taekwondo Association, Hwang Kee and those loyal to him and the original Tang Soo Do/Moo Duk Kwan kept the Tang Soo Do name. Hwang Kee would later officially changed the name to Soo Bahk Do; however, there exists a great disagreement between Tang Soo Do/Moo Duk Kwan and Soo Bahk Do organizations. In South Korea it is officially recognized as Moo Duk Kwan and most Tang Soo Do organizations have switched to that name or use both interchangeably.
